Colorado Stream Update: SBC through Walker Ranch is an excellent fishery right now at a flow of 38cfs

Current Conditions at South Boulder Creek:

The river is open and flowing directly below Gross Reservoir. With a flow of 38 cfs, as of this writing, it's important that you handle all caught trout with care and get them back into the river as quickly as possible. But, with that in mind, the fishing is great right now. We've had our best success using the hopper/dropper method-- trout aren't taking the hopper but it's acting as a sensitive strike indicator. Our most productive droppers have been small patterns like: #20 juju beatis, #22 jujubee midges, #20 top secrets, and #20 red rainbow warriors. As just mentioned, don't expect trout to come up and eat your hopper pattern but it will work very well as a strike indicator in this skinny water.

Fishing has been best from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and fly fishing trips have been catching lots of trout. Make sure you are getting a good drag free drift in order to hook fish. Use a long 9’ or 10’ rod to get the most control out of your nymph rig.  The fishing is great.  Overcast skies and 20-23 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
