Colorado Stream Update: The reservoir has recently turned over so water clarity coming out Navajo Lake is off-color for the time being.

Current Conditions at San Juan:

Even with sub-par water clarity, fishing on the San Juan below Navajo Lake is still one of the best winter options you'll have! There are pods of fish rising to midge clusters in deep slack water which is making for great fun. With the poor clarity you will be able to get away with 4x tippet, which will help with getting some of those big boys to net. Ju Ju Midges, Ju Ju Baetis, and Dorsey's Top Secret are working great sub-surface right now. Before making the trip down south, first check weather reports first. It can get brutally cold here and the trout definitely take a siesta when its too cold out.

Make sure you are getting a good drag free drift in order to hook fish. The fish are pooled up right now. Look for fish holding in the slowest and deepest runs and holes in the river. Fly fishing reports are good. Look for fish rising during the warmest part of the day.  The fishing is good.  Clear skies and 48-51 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Stained.
