Colorado Stream Update: Water clarity has been slightly off with snow melting into the system but sight fishing is still your best bet at catching a fat carp!

Current Conditions at Downtown:

Try and time your trip to the DSP after a stretch of warm days because with warmer water temperature the carp in here will become more active. As is the case for all winter fly fishing, whether it's for trout or carp, finding the feeding fish is the key to your success. Target carp in the flats and wait for that open mouth and give a cast a few feet up river of the carp, giving small jigging style retrievals to your pattern. Crayfish and Leeches have been working the best, using 3 and 4x tippet.

No need to be on the water early, wait for the sun to come up in order to warm up the water temperature. The low and clear winter water makes for excellent sight fishing conditions. Make sure bring a quality pair of glasses to cut the glare from the snow and sun. The winter fly fishing in Colorado is great.  The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Slightly Off.
