Colorado Stream Update: The weather is extremely cold and the hike down to the river is treacherous, but the fishing is great!

Current Conditions at Blue River Below Green Mountain:

Surprisingly there are a few baetis in the drift right now so definitely have a few size 20 Pheasant Tails in your box. Trail your lead fly with two small midge patterns like a black Rojo Garcia, cream colored Bling Midge, olive Zebra Midge, and a black Tube Midge. There have been occasional Blue Wing Olives hatching here and there, but after this latest cold snap almost all insect and trout activity will be sub-surface. The flow is at a very healthy 244 so there is really no need to fish 5x and 6x as 4x will get the job done and get those trout in the net much quicker.

Fishing has been best from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and fly fishing trips have been catching lots of trout. The fish are pooled up right now. Look for fish holding in the slowest and deepest runs and holes in the river. Fly fishing reports are good. Look for fish rising during the warmest part of the day.  The fishing is good.  Clear skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
