Colorado Stream Update: The Bighorn is fishing great both from a drift boat and walk-wading as well.

Current Conditions at Bighorn:

The drift from Wedding of the Waters confluence down through Thermopolis is absolutely out of sight right now! There isn't a whole lot of surface action with only the sporadic rise here and there on size 18 Griffith's Gnats, so concentrate your efforts on nymphing. Sow Bug patterns are working great as lead flies, trailed by two smaller midge patterns such as Top Secrets and JuJu Midges. Fish are primarily in winter holding lies-- deep slow moving water-- but during mid day at when the sun is at it's highest look for fish to move into riffles and more tradition feeding lanes.

The fish are feeding mostly on midges during the midday hatch hours. Use a long 9’ or 10’ rod to get the most control out of your nymph rig. Make sure bring a quality pair of glasses to cut the glare from the snow and sun.  The fishing is good.  Clear skies and 48-51 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
