Colorado Stream Update: The big T is fishing is best directly below Olympus Dam in Estes Park.

Current Conditions at Big Thompson:

It's no secret that the best winter fishing here is right below the dam so come prepared to deal with a few other anglers. With that said, trout are still feeding so there are good days to be had here. Very small Baetis patterns, Two-bit Hookers and Pheasant Tails, are working well as are small midge patterns like Disco Midges and Black Beauties. This is definitely the time and place to use a longer leader and 6x tippet. The takes are very subtle sight fishing will be your best friend at The Big Thompson in these cold winter months.

Tiny tippets and small midge and mayfly patterns are hooking the most fish. Try nymph fishing with different styles and sizes of midge patterns. Try a tandem nymph rig. The fish are pooled up right now. Look for fish holding in the slowest and deepest runs and holes in the river. Fly fishing reports are good.  The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 36-39 degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
