Current Conditions at Cheesman Canyon:

The fish here in Cheesman Canyon are becoming increasingly spooky as the flow stays below 250 cfs. This is already a technical fishery but for those that are looking for a challenge then this is the place! Our guides have noticed that trout are weary of both indicators and and split shots, so using lead-wired nymphs or tungsten bead head nymphs will get your patterns down in the strike zone quickly without scaring off any trout. Fishing without an indicator can certainly provide its fair share of challenges but the reward will be a day full of action. The best advice I can give when it comes to fishing without an indicator is simply to sight fish. Do not target any fish farther than 10 feet out from you and give a good high-stick presentation and wait for the white of the trout's open mouth.

Try tiny midge and mayfly imitations and 6x and 7 x tippets. All the sections of the South Platte are flowing at a very manageable flow. Try using different colors of scuds to fool wary fish, brighter olive and orange colored patterns have been fishing very well.  The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 56-59 degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Crystal Clear.
