Colorado Stream Update: The sucker spawn is in full gear in the lower sections of Waterton Canyon!

Current Conditions at Waterton:

There are a ton of suckers above Chatfield Reservoir right now but in between you can find a few nice trout feeding on their eggs! Sight fishing is your best tool on this section of the South Platte right now because if you're fishing "fishy" water you're more likely to catch one of the hundreds of suckers in there right now, so walk the banks and specifically look for those feeding Rainbows. BWOs are out and about so come with an assortment of Parachute Adams and BWO Comparaduns to fool those rising afternoon trout!

Not too terribly crowded on the river today. Spring is the time of year to view wildlife! Look for Bald Eagles, Mule Deer, Wild Turkeys and other interesting fauna throughout the South Platte River drainage. The winds have been manageable and during the calm days we have seen some prolific insect hatches. All the sections of the South Platte are flowing at a very manageable flow.  The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 52-55 degree weather. The water temperature was between 44-47 degrees and Crystal Clear.
