Colorado Stream Update: As Winter transitions to Spring look for trout to key on the BWO life-cycle.

Current Conditions at Taylor:

The big hogs here in the C&R section are on the feed! #22 brown Two-Bit Hookers are imitating the nymphal stage of the BWO to perfection while a small #24 Barr's Emerger is the best pattern to use to imitate the emerging state of the fly. Sight fishing is the name of the game here and these big boys are shy of a strike indicator so either use a clear indicator or ditch it all together and keep a close eye on the trout. Some of the smaller trout are feeding off of the surface on various BWO patterns but the big boys are still hunkered down low. 5x and 6x fluorocarbon tippet will get the job done best.

Time to head to Colorado‚Äôs western slope for some of the first fly casts of the year. Blue Winged Olive mayflies and an assortment of other small brown and olive mayflies are everywhere! The Frying Pan, Blue River below Dillon, Williams Fork and Taylor are all flowing at good fishable levels.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 48-51 degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Crystal Clear.
