Colorado Stream Update: The best fly fishing on the Big Thompson is directly below Lake Estes and down river about three miles from the dam.

Current Conditions at Big Thompson:

The recent cold snap has slowed fishing down here but look for action to pick back up as the weather turns for the better. Look for trout to be holding in deep, slow water while these water temperatures remain in the mid-to-high 30s, so it's a nymphing game for the foreseeable future. Its also back to small flies-- size#22s and above.

Midges and mayflies are everywhere. The water is low and clear and the fish are hungry. Fly fishing trips have been great. Many of the dam released stretches just outside of Denver and Boulder are fishing quite well with eggs, midges, and mayfly emergers.  The fishing is slow.  Clear skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
