Colorado Stream Update: Fishing the Pan right now is as good as it gets!

Current Conditions at Frying Pan:

The flow coming out of Ruedi Reservoir has been at a stable 88 cfs during the past month which has led to a steady, but not overwhelming, stream of Mysis Shrimp coming out of the reservoir. The big Rainbows that this river is known for are also beginning their spawning phase so running an egg pattern above or below your mysis imitation is a great way to get some of these beauties to net. Outside of Mysis and Egg patterns, there are Midges all over the place right now! All three phases of the Midge life-cycle are in play right now: 1) Black Zebra Midges are working great imitating the midge larva, 2) Dorsey's Top Secret is a fantastic pattern that is working great imitating the Pupa (also known as emerging) phase, and 3) Floating the good old fashioned Griffith's Gnat on the surface is working very well as a dry fly. Have fun up here but be forewarned, the crowds are super thick! With that in mind, please do not fish or step on the many Redds that are in the river right now.

The weather is warming up outside and it is beginning to look like spring again! Midges! Everywhere you look on the stream you will find midge clusters. Be sure and watch your step as the fish are beginning to spawn and eggs can be found throughout the river.  The fishing is fantastic.  Clear skies and 52-55 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
