Colorado Stream Update: Pine Valley Ranch is starting to heat up which makes it an ideal destination for those wanting to stick close to Denver.

Current Conditions at North Fork Public:

This section of the North Fork of the S. Platte is almost completely ice free and the water temps are in the high 30s, which has generated more insect activity and has the trout on the feed. Small Copper Johns always work here, despite the fact that there are not a lot of baetis in the drift quite yet. The main insect fish seem to be targeted on are small Snow Midges, which are reddish in color, so red Rojo Garcia's are a great imitation to bring to the river. Even though we've passed into March and spring is on the mind, look for these trout in traditional winter holding spots-- deep and slow water! Also, there are more Stoneflies in this river than you'd think so using a Girdle Bug as a lead fly on your nymph rig works great as an attractor but it will also bring a couple trout to net here and there as well.

The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 48-51 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
