Colorado Stream Update: The Bighorn River of Thermopolis, Wyoming is as beautiful as ever but the fishing is tough right now!

Current Conditions at Bighorn:

The water coming out of Boysen Reservoir is crystal clear and running at a healthy 2,600 cfs but the water temperature is at chilly 34 degrees. This has pushed the trout to the bottom of the river so it's essential you are using a 12-15 foot leader and be prepared to use upwards of 3 AB weights on your nymph rig because if you aren't dredging bottom then your chances of hookups are very slim. The good news here is that when one of these Wyoming big boys decides to eat, the takes are not subtle! That indicator will jet underwater! Drifting the river remains the name of the game here as the water is just too big right now to have good access to it's most fishy runs by walk-wading. San Juan Worms, Sow Bugs with an orange hothead bead, and small emerger patterns likes RSIIs have been the most productive patterns, but again, it's more about getting to the bottom of the river as opposed to the patterns you're using.

The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 52-55 degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
