Colorado Stream Update: It's cold up here in the high country but the Blue below Green Mountain is still a great winter fly fishing option.

Current Conditions at Blue River Below Green Mountain:

The brief hike down the canyon from the parking lot to the river can be a little treacherous so use extreme caution, and go with a friend if possible, but the fishing can make it all worth while. It's not an easy river to fish right now-- sight fishing is very limited, the trout are feeding selectively, and the weather is darn cold even on a warmer day here-- but the reward of hooking into a high country beauty makes it all worth it. Trout are holding in slow runs and behind large boulders so a high stick presentation is your best bet at hooking into them right now. The main food source continues to be midge larva and pupa-- black Tungsten Zebra Midge and Dorsey's Top Secret pupa are both working great imitating each life cycle-- but Stoneflies and San Juan Worms can both fool a few of these wise trout as well.

The fishing is fair.  Clear skies and 24-27 degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
